Filler: Fleshing out chapter 4 part 2

If you’ve got any questions or things about the Hard Graft world you wanted to ask then by all means drop me a message in the comments box below!

Moving on we’re seeing a confrontation between two of the main characters outside of the immediate Alan-Bern-Kathy axis. As I mentioned several times before I’m seeking to expand the story of the Hard Graft world namely to try and describe what in the hell exactly is going on here. I went some way towards doing this via the side stories which eased out some teasing tidbits if you read it hard enough.

We’re going to be introducing a whole metric tons worth of new characters, locations and hopefully should explain a few things you’ve all been wondering about. I was quite pleased that the end of chapter 3 provoked a wee bit of surprise amongst everyone who reads the comic.

I’m pleased to say that I’m also working on getting issue two of Hard Graft up on Graphic.ly hopefully followed by some side stories so the CLAPOW! store can look a little more worth looking at. I might even put the CLAPOW! pineapple logo up one of these days…maybe.

Filler – fleshing out chapter 4

This is understandably an exciting time. Chapter four is in the works and so far we’re easing our way along pretty nicely. I’ve spent most of today instructing Jules in the wonders of the humble bacon sandwich which is a staple part of any British breakfast. Other aspects we’ve been looking at so far is the level of detailing in the surroundings which our characters find themselves in for the first six to seven pages which has required a lot of research online. You’ll understand once you see the finished product.

In other news I’m probably going to take a fresh look at merch I have currently and wondering what direction I will take in the future. If people like tagging lamp posts and subway stations with stickers maybe I could help with that? Its pretty common here on the tube and its something I’ve always thought about doing. Also I probably need to print a load of books for the States so that will probably have to be done this Spring.

Speaking of weather it is absolutely feckin’ Baltic here! Although when you cycle you get very warm very quickly only to freeze on the spot the minute you stop and leap off your bike. It was cycling home yesterday in freezing conditions that I came across one of the many fun and quirky aspects of London life: its people. My back wheel was out of shape after a stupid estate agent in his VW knocked me off my bike last Autumn and it was getting so bad last night that cycling was impossible.

I passed Tower Cycles near Tower Gateway DLR and found it was run by this delightfully pleasant Bulgarian who cheerfully stayed open just long enough to straighten both of my wheels, add some air and change my brakes for £20. He emigrated to the UK years ago and instantly found work as a bike mechanic and has thrived ever since. He cycles ten – fifteen miles a day and his garage is open from 8 until 7 every day unless its the summer when opening hours extend as far as 10 at night! It was great to sit down in his little workshop and watch him work on the bike while we chatted about London, the weather and how stupid car drivers are. Very refreshing.

Concept #1 – Stacey Chapman

Just to prove that we are working on something and not in fact sitting around eating m&ms and watching TV here is one of the fair few character concept sketches Jules has been working on for me in the past few weeks.

Stacey will be an integral character in the coming storyline so pay close attention in chapter four to see what happens! We’ll be showing more character concepts in the coming weeks.

EDIT: I’ve also taken the liberty of moving some of the filler to the Extras section of the site. I’ll be moving to add more wallpapers as well for your enjoyment :)
