And so, now that Alan has made sure his ribs aren’t broken, they conclude hiring negotiations and get down to business. If only all hiring was this awesome.
This concludes side story one. Now what seems to be on people’s minds recently is whats happened to German?! Well I can answer that question!
He’s been hard at work on issue 3 and on Friday and next Monday I’ll have some stuff to show you from what he’s done so far which has been absolutely superb. On top of this he’s been doodling the covers for the Hard Graft limited edition minibook and he also worked overtime to deliver the Kathy needed for the Comic Creators Alliance wallpaper.
Obviously though we all need our Hard Graft fix and at the same time we can work on explaining parts of the story which would otherwise be left to the sidelines. This is where Jules comes in.
In the end its a win win situation. We all get more Hard Graft from two top quality artists. Whats not to love about that?
Also got a few nice things to point out to readers!
We’ve got a Hard Graft Fan Map! If you like Hard Graft and want to tell the world where you are in the world follow the easy instructions to put your mark on the map! Its good fun but I can’t do much about the tiny map size :/
Next we have the formspring.me Hard Graft question widget! Got a question to ask either Prestwick, German or the cast? Then dump it here and we’ll do our best to get back to you. Also listed are previous questions and answers.
And that wraps up issue two. Another 22 pages in the can and issue 3 is..er..well..we’ll chat about that on Friday. My apologies about the lack of a colour page but this is being remedied ASAP so check back in the next 24/48 hours. UPDATE: COLOUR PAGE IS HERE! BASK IN ALL ITS GLORY!
And so, like a pheonix from the ashes, Bernadette emerges and she isn’t very pleased but then again if you had been pulled back into a burning building by a bloodied Talibob psychopath then you’d be pretty annoyed as well wouldn’t you?
The inspiration for this page came from when I was writing and Muse’s Space Dementia came on last.fm, the whole climatic scene just built in my head and the whole thing just wrote itself! Amazing how easy things were back then.
EDIT: Please remember to spare a thought for the tens of thousands of Iranians who will go out onto the streets today to protest against the reigime and campaign for a free Iran. They’re braver than I’ll ever be. If you know anyone who lives in Iran, please pass this message on.
Anyway, thanks once again for coming along and reading and please tune in on Friday when I’ll explain where Hard Graft will be going next!
Alan doesn’t get along well with these locals very well to be honest , fuu
Sorry for the extreme lateness of this strip but I was away from the flat all weekend and Monday. And guess where the page was? You’re right.
It hasn’t been all doom and gloom..well it has mostly with England losing to the old enemy. No, not syphilis but Australia. A disgraceful state of affairs! And to think we put this whole issue behind us when we won the Ashes earlier this year :-/
But on other fronts, things have been progressing well. I should have something nice to show you all at the end of the week and may well have something nice to give out..maybe. Stay tuned for that one.
Also, paradoxically, ANZAC biscuits are ace.
While we’re at it, can we all vote for Hard-Graft in best new webcomic in the WCRCAs? Cheers. Oh well..
Ah, those cads! Will they never learn their lesson! People who patently do not like each other should not volunteer to go get munchies for mates at 3am!!! Especially when your musical interests are as emo as Gladstone’s!
Yes, I was pretty bored but I got reading Hark, a vagrant by Kate Beaton which showcases the finest in historical tomfoolery and it inspired me to make my own (admittedly crap) tribute. Heres to you, Kate Beaton of the Maritime- I mean PIER 21 museum!!!
It was the Pier 21 museum? Right?
…a bit of slang there: Alans = Alan Whicker = Knicker = Underwear = Panties!
Oh Alan Whicker, will your fantastic monologues never end?
But I’m getting side tracked, here is page 32 with the first proper dialogue between Alan & Bernadette which reveals the interesting relationship the two have when on the job. But it seems that someone or something has caught their attention..I wonder what it could be.
Not really much to update with this week. Everything going swimmingly. If I think of anything, I’ll just blog it like last week.
A couple of weeks ago, I decided to gradually reveal my inspirations to the world. Last time I focused on the super and ultra cool world of Kita Koga but this week we’re venturing from the world of print and into the world of the web. Specifically the webcomic: Marilith.
Marilith is written by Krazy Krow and is split into two distinct halfs: Krakow 2.0 (drawn by Krow himself) and then under its own name (drawn by a succession of artists). It follows sexy and astute female assassin Marilith Millions and her “fun” adventures in the shady world of killing people for money.
1.0 was much more dependent on dialogue than art and it probably was what made the comic (and Krow’s) name in webcomics. Most of it is tongue in cheek sarcasm with lots of pop culture humor which hits the right buttons. Kimiko and Valentino are the two who make it what it is but both go through development while Marilith stays constant throughout all the change going on about her.
I think it was with 2.0 that Krow started to spread his wings and this was when the action sequences and clever and cool art from the succession of artists came to the fore. The chapter “Interstate intercept” was probably one of the best out of all the Marilith chapters and it sets the bar for action, violence and black comedy for me. I have no idea what happened to John Staton but his art was absolutely epic. Wherever you are mate I salute you!
Its sadly coming to an end but it will be missed in its passing. Check it out now to see what you’ve missed over the years!
The original idea for this came from an obscure British comedy which ran back in the early 2000′s which was a kind of remixed ultra modern news satire show with lots of random graphs and so on. One of them was a pie chart showing a public survey which asked the question: now the IRA has declared an end to war, what should it do now? The answers were:
Naturally, I opted for number three. Obviously, this gives a huge clue as to the origins of our gal but rest assured, like that catsuit/swimsuit/wetsuit/whatever it is that she’s got on, nothing is all that it seems.
Sorry for the lateness but I was late for work yesterday so I had to rush out and completely forgot to upload today’s comic! Usually I upload it on Sunday evening GMT and it comes up usually by the time I get home. This time sadly it didn’t work out like that but, such is life.
Also fixed is the issue of the pages 1,4,5 and 22 not appearing. They should be back. Big thanks to Azaz31 for pointing this out!
I’m happy to say that the message to Iranians posted on Friday was a big success and was re-tweeted quite a bit on Twitter #iranelection. I can’t thank W.Byron of 1977 the webcomic enough for taking the time out to do such a brilliant and subtle piece. I’m glad that I got the Farsi right too…I think.
As ever, any comments you guys have just shoot them on over and I’ll take a look and may even reply!
None at all. A bit rubbish really.
Well, this wraps up the end of issue one and I hope you’ve all enjoyed this rough and ready introduction into this world I have cast for you all. Cast is a little too grand a word to use, maybe written or created? I don’t know, it is a bit of a heavy evening seeing something you’ve worked on come to life and you get those feelings of (emo) dread which I won’t bore you with.
Issue two is at the finishing line with the first pages (almost) ready. We’re racing for a start date of the 8th so fingers crossed! On Friday, I’m going to release some of the sketches for issue two and I’m sure you’ll love them as much as I did.
If you like it, hate it or hold no feelings whatsoever then let me know by comment or by contact form. I need feedback to know if I am doing this right as I am a beginner in all this.
Questions can be hard, especially when in a rocky outcrop in Balochistan and when the guy you’re asking is more twitchy after your average Vietnam chopper pilot after too many tranqs..
The plot is going well and already we’re looking forward to issue two which is coming soon as well as a couple of freebies. I’ll post come sketches of whats to come as filler between chapters.
I know a few people are reading this and I thank everyone for reading! I hope you’re all enjoying the show so far and are looking forward to seeing what happens next!
