In other countries such a statement would have been rather tame and pretty matter of fact but in Germany it means grounds for dismissal. So was the case yesterday when German President Horst Köhler remarked in an interview that a “country of our size with an export orientation” must sometimes send its armed forces “to defend our interests, for example open trade routes.”

Sorry for the extreme lateness of this strip but I was away from the flat all weekend and Monday. And guess where the page was? You’re right.
It hasn’t been all doom and gloom..well it has mostly with England losing to the old enemy. No, not syphilis but Australia. A disgraceful state of affairs! And to think we put this whole issue behind us when we won the Ashes earlier this year :-/
But on other fronts, things have been progressing well. I should have something nice to show you all at the end of the week and may well have something nice to give out..maybe. Stay tuned for that one.

Like a rambling, coughing shambles coming out of the darkness! Here is what I’ve been looking at this week:
- Iranian Supreme Leader, state media get a little confused about the purpose of YouTube and Facebook.
- War is Boring tries to bring a little sanity to the debate on the War in Afghanistan.
- While The Economist reminds the world the issue of the religious icons and traditions in Western Liberal schools isn’t as clear cut as those for and against make it.
- WIRED Magazine meanwhile has an article over how the US Secretary of Defence, Robert Gates, has changed the world of defence planning in the USA forever.
