Well Alan certainly haunts my dreams. Him and Saffi although you’ll probably find out all about her later!
And so we ease to the end of yet another stirring side story which hopefully opens more questions which I hope to answer in the coming issues. I’ve completed issue four and I’m seriously looking forward to introducing new characters, new locations and new explosions and yet more violence which I’m sure you’ll all love.
Sorry for the delay in getting it up on the site but I’ve been having an excellent bank holiday weekend here in the UK with random visits to country houses, checking out new arrivals to the family and..having a horse step on my foot:
Which was pretty bad but after that I did end up with a blue beard at a party which cheered me up no end:
So it hasn’t been all bad this weekend. Anyway we’re looking to finish side story four soon and then get back on the wagon with issue 3 before going straight into issue 4 which me and Jules are already working on. She is really pumped about it and so am I so we’re chomping at the bit to get at it! Wish us luck!
It has been a pretty interesting few months behind the scenes here at Hard Graft towers since our last update which was waaay back in April. Thats almost five months? Incredible.
Anywayyou’re probably wondering why there has been such a massive gap between comics and I’m here to explain the relevant reasons why this is so. But first a few announcements.
Firstly Hard Graft issue one is now on Graphic.ly! Check it out and buy one if you like Hard Graft on your mobile! Better still why not spread the word and let all your mates know!
Secondly unless something massive changes issue three will end early. I have my reasons why it has come to this but I don’t feel that the time is right to divulge them now. I know that many creators usually keep silent when there is a sudden change of artist but I feel that I owe it to my hardy band of fans that I at least let them know whats going to happen.
Thirdly I have tapped Jules to produce all content from the end of issue three onwards. I want quality and I also want reliability and Jules brings these to the table in cart loads in my opinion. She has her own distinct art style which is evolving all the time as she does more work and if you want to see what she has done recently then I urge you with every fibre of my being to check out Valkyrie Squadron which is an uncompromising sci-fi romp. If you’re not convinced after reading that then frankly you’ll never be I’m afraid.
This brings me onto my fourth and final announcement that we plan to cull issue 3 at 16 pages and then progress the story into issues 4 and 5 which I’ve already scripted. I’m already working on an issue 6.
If you have any comments, complaints, questions or all of the above then please comment below and I’ll be in touch to answer those.
And so thats why you shouldn’t lie to ol’ Uncle Alan. Because he’ll make sure that you’ll be limping for the rest of your life.
Another week and another page in what is turning out to be my favourite side story yet! Its been really enjoyable so far but there is more joy (and woe) on the horizon. First the joy.
The books should be arriving either sometime this week or the beginning of next week. If you want a book you can either buy one from me in person at the 2010 Webcomix and Small Press expo in Mile End, London on the 27th of March or you can just e-mail me and we’ll sort it out. I’ve only got 35 so £2.50 in person or £4 to be posted abroad. All orders should (fingers crossed) get a free postcard, badge and fridge magnet! Everyone loves fridge magnets.
Now the bad news. Recently the UK has been buffeted by what can only be described as political indecision. And its this which has spooked the financial world which in response to this indecision has been gradually devaluing Sterling against the Dollar and the Euro. Last year the Dollar was worth about $1.65 to the Pound which was a great rate and enabled me to run this comic. Today however it is barely $1.48 to the Pound which is frankly hurting me.
Obviously despite being almost near parity, switching to the Euro is not an option as the exchange rate between the Euro and the Dollar is even worse at $1.30 to the Euro.
I’ve had a chat with both German and Jules and we’re going to wait until the 24th of March when the UK Budget is announced and see how the markets react. If there is serious action to deal with the UK’s economic woes and the markets give it a thumbs up and the pound gains strength against the Dollar then happy days. If not then I’m going to have to put the comic on hiatus until things improve.
In any case, because I’m flying off to Japan for three weeks I’m going to put the comic on hiatus in May anyway. This is all very tough for me as I really want to keep going with this and I look at the scripts every day and dream of how awesome they’re going to be when I share them with you on this site. I’m going to get my books and I’m going to show them to my Mum and Dad and say “look what I’ve been doing with friends” and they’re going to love it. So its killing me that I have to stop it because of the current situation.
If the exchange rate improves over the next 10 days I’ll keep you updated and so on. Until then, lets hope things improve eh?
